Papaioannou 'Saint-George'

Agiorgitiko, 2011

Peloponnesus 75cl

I am a senior judge at the International Wine Challenge, and did 2 days juding this year. We don't know what the exact wines are just the country, grape(s) and vintage. This is a wine i judged in the second week where we award medals. I always make a note of the code of the wines i judged and really liked and this is one such wine.
So we tried a flight of Greek wines and this really impressed me. I tracked it down and now we are shipping a parcel. It's made from Agiorgitiko also known as Saint George. Lightly oaked, organic and from the estates 57 hectares.
Bright red berry fruits and vanillan oak on the nose. It's fresh with lovely cherry and berry fruits some dried herb and spice, redcurrant and creamy oak. Really delicious and very approachable, best served with a light chill, and was great with some Spanish tapas tonight.
