Bodegas Garzon

Marselan Reserve, 2017

Uruguay 75cl

An unusual wine made from the interesting Marselan grape, a cross between Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache. It was first bred in 1961 by Paul Truel near the French town of Marseillan.
It's pretty successful here in Uruguay too. The berries are small and late ripening, producing deeply coloured wines such as this. Dense red and black berry fruits with a smoky meaty character too.
Bright and fresh with a nice savoury character allied to berry fruits and a touch of marzipan like oak.
Worth a look if you are looking for a characterful deep red and i reckon this will age well over the next 3-5 years too. Not tasted many Marselan wines so this was a really pleasant surprise.
