France Burgundy White

Pernand-Vergelesses AC 75cl

There's not much value to be had in the Cotes de Beaune but this appellation proves time and again to buck that trend.
On the western edge of the Corton hill sits this appellation, cheek by jowl with Corton-Charlemagne, a notoriously expensive wine, the cheapest bottle of this I could find with a web search was 80

Classic 'spun gold' colour with quite and elegant, restrained nose that has hints of brioche, hazelnut and pressed flowers. The palate is much richer than the nose suggests though with big, bold stone fruits (super ripe peach and nectarine) a lick of toasty oak and the merest whisper of citrus to hold it together, despite the decadent and long finish.

Enjoyed this so much I've just realised that nearly half the bottle was gone just through constant tasting while writing this !

Noel tasting this in November 2017. I concur it's an absolute fabulous white Burgundy from a great vintage. Rich, full, voluptuous and toasty, it also has lovely acidity that gives the wine real energy and almost a zest. Long and creamy, it's perfect drinking now. Just shy of 30 but way better than most village Cote d'Or whites such as Meursault, Puligny and Chassagne Montrachet's which will cost you more!
