Viognier, 2010

Australia White

Barossa Valley 75cl

Our first Viognier! I have always thought this would fit in with our Rhone philosophy. The grapes come from my partner Rolf's own family vineyards very close to the winery. The wine is made by Rolf's sister Christa and as ever I blended the wine with Rolf. It has some oak components which I was very keen on using to give added texture and complexity. 65% is tank fermented and aged, 17.5% in new French oak and 17.5% in two year old French oak bottled after 11 months.
Spicy on the nose with flowery aromatic notes, honeysuckle, lime and white peach.
Weighty on the palate, yet really fresh, spicy with lots of citrus and peach, flowery with good acidity. Long with integrated, subtle, nutty oak, gently creamy too which adds length and complexity to the lovely stone fruits and citrus zest. It's really quite fresh for Viognier, not at all oily or fat.Don't over chill the wine, it so much more expressive if not too cold. Drink now -2013. For a first release we are very happy with the wine and style. 188 dozen produced.
