Henschke 'Tappa Pass'

Shiraz, 2003

Australia Red

Barossa 75cl

This is the second vintage of a new Henschke wine only made in exceptional vintages. It is labelled as 'Vineyard Selection' . The label goes on to state that on occasions one or two parcels of Shiraz really 'blow them away', and this is one such example. This comes from old low yielding vineyards, owned by growers in the Tappa Pass and Ebeneezer vineyard districts. Obviously kept seperate and fermented in open fermenters and aged in new and seasoned French oak. Not quite as good as the stellar 2002 debut. It's quite an old fashioned Barossa shiraz. Meaty, gamey and leathery on the nose with spice, chocolatey oak and berry fruit. Full bodied with high toned red and black berry and plum fruit a touch of raisin too. It's got a good whack of alcohol and again lots of leather and cedary spice. Liqourice and pepper too. Drink now and over the next 3-4 years.
