Akriotou 'Orivatis' Old Vine Savatiano
From a winery in Boeotia near the plains of Plataea, a lesser-spotted part of Greece on most wine shelves, this old vine Savatiano has a characterful, enticing citrusy nose of lemon, pink grapefruit, firm pears and a touch of honey. On drinking, it delivers very focused, crisp fruit flavours of lemon juice, tangerine and apricot, with some savoury and bitter herbs and a slightly chewy texture. Very pleasant to taste on its own but it's dying for some grilled fish and a squeeze of lemon. Full of classic Greek character and individuality but made in a clean, modern way.
