We have some associated releases too including the more immediate and affordable Rosso di Montalcino's - 2019 is looking very good indeed for this year.

WINE ADVOCATE
BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO 2016 – 94 (Monica Larner)
The Argiano 2016 Brunello di Montalcino shows a lovely transparency to its appearance and follows with lifted red fruit aromas,
cassis, wild cherry and blue flower. It is made with a simple approach, fermented in cement tank and aged slowly in oak, and
the fruit comes from a 22-hectare site with limestone marl soils. It delivers a lightness and a weightlessness that is not often
ascribed to this vintage. No worries, the power of 2016 comes through at the very end in terms of tannins and structure. This
ample release of 115,000 bottles will be ready to drink after 2023 when the wine has had time to open and flesh out. Drink
date: 2023 – 2040.

Argiano Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2015

JAMES SUCKLING
BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO RISERVA 2015 – 96
This is very opulent with a beautiful texture. A juicy, full-bodied red with complex aromas of dried cherries and flowers, bark,
cloves, toast and mushrooms. It’s full-bodied with great fruit and depth and sleek tannins. Long, refined finish. Drink from
2023.

The Wine Advocate - 95/100
With DNA carefully shaped by Tuscan sunshine and golden light, the 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a textbook
expression of the vintage. The wine reveals soft and ripe fruit with dark cherry, candied apricot, cola, medicinal herb and
aniseed. There is depth and complexity, followed by a powerful mid-palate and textured tannins. This Riserva represents a
special selection of fruit from across the estate's 22 hectares of Brunello. The clay and limestone marl site is located at a breezy
280 to 310 meters above sea level. Production is very small, with just 1,700 bottles made. Drink date: 2023 – 2040.

Argiano Brunello di Montalcino 'Vigna del Suolo' 2016

Italy

VIGNA DEL SUOLO 2016 – 96+ (Monica Larner)
This special single-vineyard wine comes from a 3.5-hectare site with vines 50- or 60-something years old. The Argiano 2016
Brunello di Montalcino Vigna del Suolo (with only 5,000 bottles produced) opens to warm earthy notes that evoke the name
of the wine: "vineyard of the soil." The fruit comes through in a second wave with dried raspberry, cassis and dried cherry. But
that theme of earthiness permeates the entire experience and is evoked in the powdery dryness of the tannins too. These
traits are characteristic of cement fermentation, which this wine does complete, but also of the calcareous marl soils of the
site. This is an elegant wine that most certainly needs extra bottle time to gain in depth and volume. A special collaboration
with tonnellerie Taransaud was started to create the custom 10-hectoliter oval casks used to age this 5,000-bottle production.
Drink date: 2024 – 2044.

Fabulous vintage and some amazing wines.

Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino 2016

Italy

The growing season began with cool, wet weather. The flowering was generally good, but cooler than normal temperatures affected fertility in some cases, reducing yields slightly. In July, the weather turned hot and dry, with one rainfall mid-August relieving the stress on the vines. The ate-ripening Sangiovese, however, took advantage of 2 inches of rain mid September, followed by beautiful weather with good swings in temperature between day and night. Aged 36 months in 3500 litre French oak casks. Always one of our favourites the 2016 is another superlative release.
"The Il Poggione 2016 Brunello di Montalcino opens to a medium dark appearance with pretty Sangiovese shine and a little ruby sparkle. This vintage shows a slightly untamed or wild side with a dense and heavier fruit profile. The focus here is on blackberry, dried cherry, tobacco and even a touch of smoky tobacco or horse saddle. The wine shows the firm grip and tannic backbone that is a common trait in this vintage, especially with the vineyards on this southern, sunlit side of the appellation. I also get a considerable flash of acidity on the close, almost too much, that certainly needs a few more years to soften. You really need to wait with this one." 95 pts Monica Larner Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate
"I’m not sure how Il Poggione manages to remain one of the largest producers of Brunello, maintaining such a high level of quality and turning out some of the best wines of the vintage year after year - but they do. The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino is yet another stunning example. Depths of mineral-encased black cherries, sage, allspice, licorice, tobacco and crushed violets lift up from the glass. It’s seamlessly silky, even as the palate is peppered with tart red and black berries, nervous acids and savory exotic spices. This shows the density and weight of the vintage in a youthfully monolithic stance, yet with all the necessary components to maintain perfect balance. The 2016 Il Poggione seems to fold in upon itself through the finish, which is dark, mysterious and structured, with only hints of black tea and licorice to tempt the imagination. It’s a classic in the making." 97 pts Eric Guido Vinous

JAMES SUCKLING
BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO RISERVA 2015 – 95
A tight, rather linear red with blackberry, black-cherry, chocolate and walnut aromas and flavors. It’s medium-to full-bodied
with firm, silky tannins and a fresh finish. Still tight. Drink after 2022.

WINE ADVOCATE
BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO RISERVA 2015 – 95
Softer for sure compared to the 2016 wines, and more abundant in personality, the Cortonesi 2015 Brunello di Montalcino
Riserva La Mannella is very expressive of the sunny, warm and luminous growing season. Rich fruit flavors of dark plum,
black cherry and cassis are interwoven with spice, sweet tobacco and balsam herb. This wine is fermented in steel for 25
days and is then racked into oak for a long 48-months élevage. This wine is only made in the best years, and it draws its fruit
from the estate's oldest vines, which are 37 years old. A mere 3,658 bottles were made. The tannins are a bit bitter and
youthful, so give this wine more cellar time.

BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO LA MANNELLA 2016 – 95
Aromas of plums, dried flowers and black cherries follow through to a full body with layers of ripe tannins that are chewy,
yet polished and savory. Flavorful and delicious. Goes on for minutes. Drink after 2024.

WINE ADVOCATE
BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO LA MANNELLA 2016 – 94
The Cortonesi 2016 Brunello di Montalcino La Mannella shows dark fruit with dried cherry, blackcurrant and plum. On a
second wave of aromas, you encounter softer spice with toasted almond, tilled earth and grilled herb. This is a classic
expression of the crisp but sunny 2016 vintage with an open and food-friendly personality. There is a playful touch of sweet
cherry on the close. Fruit is sourced from the La Mannella zone, one of the coolest growing areas in the appellation at
moderate 350 meters above sea level. Winemaking is traditional, using 30-hectoliter Slavonian oak for three years of slow
aging, and this reinforces all those fun berry notes on display in the 25,000-bottle release.

BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO POGGIARELLI 2016 – 96
Very aromatic young Brunello with ripe cherries, peaches, orange peel and some flowers. Full-bodied with a beautiful center palate of fruit and creamy, polished tannins that go on for minutes. This is all in-check and reserved with a tight structure, but there’s well balanced fruit and tannins underneath. Drink after 2025.

WINE ADVOCATE

BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO POGGIARELLI 2016 – 96
The Cortonesi 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Poggiarelli draws its fruit from a vineyard planted in the 1970s and replanted in
part during the 1990s. Its fruit has made this designate wine since 1998, and like many of the Selezioni (and the Brunello cru
expressions), this wine shows a pretty mineral character that lifts above the bright red fruit. It's absolutely true that these
special sections from Montalcino are always recognized by their terrain or soil-adjacent aromas. In this case, I can smell
those flinty or gravel-like tones from the schistous Galestro rocks. That special aromatic signature is followed by dark fruit
and balsam herb, firm tannins and bright acidity.
