Burgundy 2017 En Primeur

Burgundy 2017 En Primeur including NEW Vindependents Selection

Our offer from this largely exciting vintage is in full flow. We have over the last few days added a host more from wineries that we import through our buying group The Vindependents.
We are founder members of this group that numbers around 35 of the leading independent merchants from around the UK. We import a whole host of wines exclusively from around the world including many fairly small wineries in Burgundy.
No member has to buy anything so we are free to pick and choose from our regular tastings.
Many of these are wines we sell all year round, but this year we are offering En Primeur.
I tasted all these wines last week and was very impressed – even more so given that we have tasted many of the famous names in the last 10 days too!
These are terrific wines and largely at VERY competitive prices when compared to most of the more famous names. These are wineries that get very good press in France but maybe not so much on an international stage e.g. Wine Advocate/Vinous
Richard Hemming MW of Jancis Robinson (jancisrobinson.com) also tasted the wines as part of their almost unrivalled comprehensive tastings of 2017 Burgundy.
If you have not bought En Primeur before then this might be the time to do so. You will save 20-25% on the retail price on the whole. You guarantee availability, many of these wines will not hit the shelf such is demand.
You only pay for the wine now, duty and vat is payable once we ship the wines to you/make available for collection.

I would like to add the following recommendations and points. Listed in order of tasting !
Domaine Michel Moingeoin
The Saint Aubin’s are superb, high quality, rich yet fresh white burgundies. The Puligny is great value for the appellation too.

Domaine Christian Bergeret
Great across the board, fabulous Saint Aubin, and great value Chassagne Montrachet. Long, rich, complex yet fresh white burgundies.

Domaine Marechal
Not cheap but classy. Claude Marechal worked for and was mentored by Henri Jayer before starting his own Domaine with wife Catherine. Whites rich and pure, reds really good- particularly liked the bright fruit and silky quality of the Ladoix. The Pommard will age really well.

Domaine Jeanniard
Liked these a lot, vibrant almost tangy reds, the Morey-Saint-Denis all good. Good potential for mid term aging too.

Domaine Réné Cacheux
Very high quality Bourgogne Pinot Noir. The Vosne Romanée where really exciting, pretty pricey but with stunning ripe fruit, spice, oak and acidity. As good as any I tried from 2017.

Domaine Remoriquet
I thought these were all great. At the riper darker spectrum for Burgundy, but still with good acidity and a lovely lively character. The basic Bourgogne is fantastic and great value. The Nuits-St-Georges I liked a lot, not cheap but the 1er Cru’s were seriously impressive especially the 1er Cru Rue de Chaux and Les Damodes

Domaine Belleville
These wines are already firm favourites at NYW and the Rully Chapitre was our best selling white Burgundy this Christmas (a Mercurey Rouge not offered EP was bestselling red Burgundy!)
Superb wines across the board, have a complexity and richness you would not expect, across the board great values. All the 1er Cru Rully Blanc are highly recommended, of the reds I loved the Rully 1er Cru Chapitre, the Mercurey Perrieres and 1er Cru Clos l’Eveque in particular.

Les Parcellaires de Saulx
They are made from single parcels of grapes (not blended) bought from very high profile domains and vinified by the team at Domaine Belleville. All I 1 year old barriques. Tiny production, sensational wines.
The Pernand Vergelesses is simply superb and lovely now ! – this is the largest production wine – 4 barrels, so 100 cases of 12! The reds are all stunning some are 50 cases only, the delicious Volnay a whopping 75 case blend.
Get your requests in quickly on these!

Domaine Meunier
These are already gaining a following. The white and red Mercurey are for me the stand out wines. Clean, fresh, pure, vibrant styles.

Domaine Billard Pere et Fils
Making their debut to us and some great wines and great values.
Love he St. Romain both white and red. The Beaune both village Les Bons Feuvres and 1er Cru Les Chouacheux great value. Quite pretty for Beaune, perfumed, bright, good acidity. Lovely wines.

Domaine R&P Bouley
Again making their debut. Lovely Volnay in particular both the village and 1er Cru.

Domaine Michel et Joanna Ecard
Fresh crunchy Savigny-Les-Beaune. Sappy and savoury with a bright energetic feel. Good depth too.

Please also note w are waiting for final pricing from a couple of other suppliers non-Vindependents)
Look out for in particular
Le Domaine d’Henri Chablis
Les Heritiers du Comte Lafon – delicious Macon’s.
Olivier Merlin- Macon and Pouilly Fuissé
Domaine de la Soufrandiere great Macon, Saint Veran and Pouilly Fuissé from the Bret brothers.
Jean Philippe Fichet 0 Meursault
Patrick Javillier, great Bourgogne and Meursault
Olivier Leflaive -various whites
Domaine de Montille (including those previously known as Chateau du Puligny Montrachet)
Sebastien Magnien
Domaine Follin-Arbelet – great Corton Charlemagne and Aloxe Corton
Domaine de la Vougeraie – lovely across the board
Domaine des Croix – great Beaune
Domaine J-F Mugnier
Thibault Liger-Belair
Domaine Jean Grivot
Domaine Guyon
Meo Camuzet
Ghislaine Barthod – lovely Chambolle Musigny
Domaine Louis Boillot – good wines and some lovely Beaujolais too
Dujac Fils et Pere maybe the best yet?
Domaine Tawse
Domaine Jean Fournier

Watch this space !!
It’s worth checking back.

Please note all Burgundy orders are a REQUEST FOR AN ALLOCATION
We have to buy across the board from the growers, so just ordering sought after Premier and Grand Cru wines only is hard to fulfil.

Vincent Girardin

An excellent tasting with long-standing winemaker Eric Germain. “In 2017, April was very warm, and everything grew rapidly. There was no frost. The end of spring, May, June and July were not too hot. There was a little rain and no stress. The beginning of August was not too hot, but the end of the month much hotter.” They began picking on 27th August. There were 2 days of rain at the beginning of September, after which the weather was fine and by 15th September everything had been harvested – at 12.5 to 13 degrees natural, with no chaptalization. 21 hectares (out of their total production from 80 hectares) is now owned or under their complete control – all of which they farm organically or biodynamically. Their aim is to be 50% own vines. Half their production comprises Bourgogne Rouge, Bourgogne Blanc, Pouilly Fuissé and Macon Fuissé and many of the top cuvees are made in very limited quantities. In 2017, 55% of their production was white and 45% red. The reds were all destemmed (except for Volnay 1er Cru Santenots).
