Arnaud Ente

For those lucky enough to have tasted (even better drink) Arnaud and Marie-Odile wines, it is fair to say that they tend to make a great indelible imprint in our minds. The domaine has long been a proponent of organic viticulture and this year has decided to start the process to gain official certification. A recognition to their ever meticulous work that was rewarded by the French Guide Bettane et Desseauve in 2012 titling Arnaud of ‘Vigneron of the Year’. Precision, purity, elegance and finesse are some of the best descriptors of the Ente style. Each wine be it Aligoté, Bourgogne Blanc, Puligny or Meursault receives an impeccable treatment. In 2011, the average yield of the overall production was 35hl and while the vintage demanded early picking, Arnaud decided to start harvesting on the 23rd of August. Yields were low and the grapes were showing a perfect ripeness while preserving the minerality and tension so important to Arnaud, who compared the quality of this vintage to that of the previous one…promising!
With the understanding that 2012 will see once again some drastic reduction and undeniably hefty increases, 2011 is a must buy!

Colombier

The Viale brothers only relatively recently started to make their wines themselves – up until 1991 they sold all their grapes on – and indeed half their 20 hectares are devoted to fruit farming. However, part timers they are not, and in the past 16 years they have shot to the top of the Crozes Hermitage tree and are now considered one of the best producers. They own a hectare and half of straight Hermitage vines but their Crozes surpasses many growers wines from the more illustrious appellation.

Domaine le Couroulu

A fine property returning to its former glories. Guy Ricard owns some of the very best land in the village. These wines were stunning in 2007, especially 2009 and again here in 2010. Clearly a great Vacqueyras vintage, black olive with cherry , licquorice and pepper, the tannins are ripe and these are already heady and complex wines.
