Perfumed nose with elderflower, grapefruit, hints of passion fruit and gooseberry.
Crisp and aromatic with bags of citrus fruit, again grapefruit, elderflower, mango and a touch of gooseberry. Good acidity keeps it clean and its tangy and refreshing and a really good Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Is it's usual more elegant style, nothing too overt and very drinkable.

Sourced from old vines this has always been a forward style of Barbera, and the new 2016 is maybe the best yet! it's dark in the glass with smokey plum, black cherry and just a hint of balsamic on the nose. The palate is likewise- full flavoured with intense black cherry and some more meaty savoury notes, chocolate and a touch of creamy oak. Very approachable, good acidity - typical of the grape, long and quite delicious and food versatile - tonight matched with a casserole of pork shoulder with tomato and vegetables.

It is about 88% Zinfandel blended with Petite Sirah, Carignan, Alicante Bouschet and many different interplanted varieties that maintain poise and add complexity and structure.

The grapes get the heat of the day, but being at altitude in the Pyrenees foothills benefit from the cooler nights allowing longer ripening of the grapes.

This single vineyard Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from the Holdaway vineyard at Dillons Point – Matt Thompson’s favourite sub-region for this variety.
A classic expression of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc but one which offers complexity of texture and a mineral drive reminiscent of river stones and sea spray. Blackcurrant, guava and passionfruit aromas emerge alongside subtle hints of lemongrass. On the palate, it is focused and vibrant while remaining elegantly balanced.

From a mountain vineyard 900 metres above sea level. Organic and pretty much a natural wine. Made from the local but rare grape variety Merseguera 64%, 24% Viognier and 11% Malvasia. Grapes are hand harvested and vinified in stainless steel tanks separately.
Lovely perfumed nose. Floral with peach, lime and grapey notes.

It's medium bodied and bright, a bit spicier and fuller this year no doubt due to the higher proportion of Mourvedrre, juicy red cherry and berry fruits with spice and subtle creamy oak, tannins are ripe and it's a really attractive, hugely drinkable red. Fresh, bright and way too drinkable!

Bottega Vinai Trentino Nosiola 2017

Nosiola is better known for making Vino Santo Trentino, one of Italy’s great dessert wines, but its fresh, ripe, unoaked dry whites are undiscovered gems. Most is grown in a small zone near Toblino in the hills above Trento. Bottega Vinai Nosiola is produced from a special selection of grapes sourced in the Valle dei Laghi.
Appealing aromas of apple and pear with lightly floral notes. The palate is fresh yet textural with orchard and stone fruit characters, a touch of honey and white spice, and a lightly nutty finish.

Boutinot Cairanne Sans Artifices 2017

A new wine from Boutinot who have a winery and vineyards in Cairanne. This is a small production 'natural' Cairanne. No additions and no added sulphur.
It's a lovely example of this style of wine.
Deep in colour, perfumed crunchy berry fruit with spice and white pepper on the nose.
Crunchy and deep, it's classic unadulterated Grenache to the fore, red and black berry fruits, spice, a hint of liquorice with herb and both black and white pepper. Bright and youthful, it works best with a light chill which really helps to encapsulate the primary fruit.
Not a wine for aging, as I am not sure where its going to go, more a wine to enjoy over the next 12 months. Good stuff.

Produced from old vine fruit (average 40 yrs for the Garnatxa Blanca and 55 yrs for Macabeu) the vines are planted at around 500m altitude in Terra Alta, and 700m in Vilosell.
A peach and citrus scented white, some saline notes too. The palate is fresh and complex with mineral, stone fruit characters, subtle herb and a long, textured finish. Has plenty going on and was superb with some Californian inspired fish taco's.
