Decanter World Wine Awards South African Red Blend over £10 Trophy.
This is a delicious blend of 37% Syrah, 21% Mourvedre, 18% Carignan, 10% Petite Sirah, 10% Grenache and 4% Tannat.
The various components were treated separately and aged in various oaks, both new and old.
Intense red-purple in the glass. Initial smoky cloves, and savoury notes give way to a plum and black cherry nose with hints of sweet oak spice. Medium bodied with well-integrated oak and fruit, this wine has a smooth tannin structure and lingering spice flavours. Great depth of black cherry and plum, real fruit sweetness and a complex long finish with fruit, oak and spice in perfect harmony and good acidity, and no rubber, tyre or greenness. Really top quality and bags of character.
