La Bascula 'Heights of The Charge' Rueda
Verdejo-Viura, 2011
Spain White
Rueda 75cl
Buy a case for £109.20 (£9.10 per bottle)
A new wine from the La Bascula boys, Ed Adams and Bruce Jack. This is a Rueda made from the traditional Rueda varieties Verdejo and Viura and aged for a short time in French and American oak barrels. Herbaceous nose with peach and citrus. It's rich and full on the palate, again herbaceous with rich peachy fruit, hints of pineapple too and citrus with a creamy roundness, the oak is very subtle- giving the wine texture and length. It's quite complex but the overriding impression is of a fresh zesty wine, i have to say the oak treatment is really quite clever as oak is not really obvious yet it really changes the mouthfeel and weight of the wine. Really very good.
