Gaia 'S'
Agiorgitiko-Syrah, 2008
Greece
Peleponnese 75cl
From the estate vineyards of Gaia in Nemea, which is in the region of Peleponnese. 70% Agiorgitiko and 30% Syrah, aged 12 months in French oak barriques and bottled unfiltered. I really like it, whilst it's made in an international style it's the local Agiogitiko grape that really shines through. Sweet cassis, plum and black cherry on the nose with meat, spice and oak.
Dense and full flavoured with lovely sweet black cherry fruit, liquorice and black pepper with a real meatiness to it, some cedar and spice on a long finish with oak and sweet fruit at every stage. Long and complex and really very good.
