Peter Lehmann 'Margaret'
Semillon, 2006
Australia White
Barossa Valley 75cl
This is Lehmann's top Semllon, named after Margaret Lehmann, founder Peter Lehmann's wife. From the excellent 2005 vintage, released as a 5 year old wine, but just arrived in the UK. 11.5% alcohol, it's in the mould of Hunter Semillon but has it's own regional characteristics. Lanolin on the nose with pea, honey and citrus, quite nutty. It's fairly crisp and bone dry, nutty with tight lemon citrus, minerally with some honey and nutty characters. Good acidity and years ahead of it, in a slightly closed phase presently.
"A complex wine; when compared next to Hunter semillons it has a different DNA code; tasted separately, it looks as much Hunter as Barossa; manages to combine ripe citrus flavour with delicacy; long, satisfying finish. Screwcap.
11.5% alc. Rating 94 Drink 2020" James Halliday 2011 Australian Wine Companion.
