Pazo de Senorans Albarino
, 2005
Spain White
Rias Baixas 75cl
Winner of the Spanish White Trophy at this years International Wine Challenge, and a gold medal winner. I actually judged the Albarino class and gave this a gold -the panel then tasted to award it a trophy. It's extremely good. In recent times the trend with Albarino has been to make really fresh crisp whites, well away from the riper fatter almost Gewurztraminer wines that used to be made. This is a fine balance between the two. Ripe zesty, minerally nose with lime, honey, apricot and some spice. On the palate it's zesty and fresh. Honeyed lime to the fore with spice and stone fruits. It's dry and clean and really refreshing though quite concentrated. Packed with fruit this is a delicious example and makes a fabulous summer wine as an aperitif or with freshly grilled fish.
