Spy Valley
Pinot Noir, 2004
New Zealand Red
Marlborough 75cl
This is a big Pinot. Interesting to look at the data. The grapes were picked from the 31/03 to the 21/04. At a ripeness of 23.7-26.5 brix. This means some of the grapes were really very ripe. It weighs in at 14.5% alcohol. Shows plum and berry fruit on a varietal nose. It's definitely improved with some air. It's looking far better balanced and less alcoholic than when first opened. Has plenty of sweet fruit, plum and cherry, with berry fruit too. Spice and some toasty oak. Alcohol is still just a touch evident and this slightly distracts from the overall quality. It's good but just a touch overripe. However has good acidity that keeps it fresh and lively on the finish. Could well develop further, there is plenty of fruit.
