Bodegas Bilbainas 'Vicuana' Rioja
, 2003
Spain Red
Rioja 75cl
Another wine from Bodegas Bilbainas ( Vina Pomal and Vicalanda )
This is just labelled as Rioja with no crianza or Joven etc indicated . A blend of Tempranillo and Graciano. This does seem to be an increasing trend in Rioja with winemakers just trying to make their best wines and not conforming with D.O rules.
Smashing nose of black cherry, fruit cake and spices. This is followed up with a pretty full flavoured palate and taste like it smells with lots of rich cake flavour and some new oak ( I think about 15 months in expensive French )
Modern Rioja is improving all the time and will become more mainstream for people with more international palates. however if you still like old school style Rioja dont worry we can still cater to you too !
