L'Ecole No 41
Merlot, 2001
Not Specified
USA, Washington State, Columbia Valley 75cl
A blend of 80% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Carmenere. Aged 18 months in French and American oak. Bottled unfined and unfiltered. 13.9% alcohol. Meaty, smoky nose with plum and prune fruit. A touch of roasted root vegetable too. It's a big wine with high toned fruit and ceamy mocha like oak. It has plum and damson fruit, with nutmeg spice and ripe tannins. Acidity keeps the wine fresh. It is big and rich and really smoky. It's a good wine that will no doubt deveop further. However its approximate retail of £25 seems ambitious!
