Clarendon Hills 'Blewitt Springs Vineyard'
Old Vine Grenache, 1996
Not Specified
Australia, Clarendon, South Australia 75cl
Clarendon is a sub region of McLaren Vale. Roman Bratasiuk's wines are indeed controversial. This is from the great 1996 vintage. An interesting style, more Recioto from Italy than a conventional dry red. The nose shows ripe raisiny red fruits, with a touch of pepper. It is in fact sweet on the palate. Sweet cherry and raspberry, yet quite tannic and drying on the finish. Certainly an interesting style, but by no means conventional. It's 15% alcohol is hidden. It is sweet and dring and short on the finish. Somewhat masked when served with food, but without slightly odd and hard work.
