Chateau Tahbilk
Marsanne, 2002
Not Specified
Australia, Victoria 75cl
This is a famous wine and style-especially in Australia. Tahbilk in Nagambie have been making this wine for decades. And the area is one of the few outside the Rhone to have such mature plantings. It is a style that ages well and i have been lucky to try the odd really impressive aged example. Generally it is a style i find a little difficult. This new 2002 has had great press in Australia, and garnered a big mid 90's score and inclusion in his prestigious Top 100 wines of the year-James Halliday.
This is a throwback to the old days. It's not about new oak, malolactic fermentation etc. Honeysuckle and peach on the nose, citrus too. Crisp yet honeyed and full of fruit. It's clean and has lovely fruit. It's not especially complex but is interesting indeed. Undoubtedly a style that will age and become more honeyed and nutty. I am not entirely sure when you would drink it, but it's really very pleasent!
