Promessa Rosso Salento IGT
Negroamaro, Primitivo, 2002
Not Specified
Italy, Puglia 75cl
This has been a real shop favourite over the years. Known initially as Promessa, then re branded Aliante, and now back to Promessa!
Made by the team behind the hugely succesful A.Mano and Prima Mano wines. This is a juicy up-front blend of Negroamaro and Primitivo. Aged for a short period in oak. Previous vintages have maybe been more internationally styled-ripe juicy fruit with creamy oak. Maybe it is the vintage or the winemakingf but it has a slightly more rustic feel. The oak is less obvious. Spicy ripe cherry and prune on the nose. Medium bodied with bitter-sweet fruit, spice a touch of oak and ripe tannins. Quite savoury despite it's juicy fruit. It is an easy drinking wine with some real Southern Italian character. Not as soft or silky as in the past but good nevertheless. Great value at c£5
