The 2001 was a smash success. A £50 first release Austrian red! This is the follow up from the great 2002 vintage. Club Batonnage is formed with young guys in or associated to the wine trade. An extreme wine coming from Jois in Burgenland. Both Gerhard Kracher and Erich Scheiblhofer are involved. An extreme selection of the best, and ripest bunches from this mature single vineyard. Picked fully ripe (15%+) and aged in new barrique. After fermentation the wine is racked into further new oak! Black in colour, this is a big wine. Drawn straight from barrel so not the finished article. Cream. licorice, meat , spice and oak on a huge nose. Really dense on the palate with wonderfully sweet black fruits. It has huge toasty oak, and firm but ripe tannins. Long silky fginish with chocolate, mocha and black olive. KIt's not as extreme as the 2001 and perhaps classier for it. At this stage a huge undeveloped red wine with great concentration and power. A true Parker behemouth. WOW
