Schlossweingut Graf Hardegg
Gruner Veltliner 'Alte Reben', 2003
Austria, Weinviertel 75cl
Just bottled and a new wine to me from Graf hardegg. Winemaker Peter Malberg is making some really exciting wines. Alte Reben means old vines. Typical Gruner white pepper and citrus with honeyed peach, lime passion fruit, and pear drops on a powerful nose. It has great depth, lovely honeyed lime and peach fruit, citrus and pineapple too. Great texture and weight with good acidity. Obviously a later harvest too, this is a much fuller expression of Gruner Veltliner than the Dreikreuzen we normally carry (the 2001 of which we carry has really blossomed and is currently looking delicious), long and rich though obviously very young. The wine grows and grows in the glass and is a delicious new release.
