Horst Sauer Escherndorfer Furstenberg 'Sensucht'
Silvaner Trocken, 2002
Not Specified
Germany, Franken 75cl
This is Horst's special Silvaner. Sensucht is hard to translate, it kind of means vision. Horst is trying to produce a really special individual wine from the local Silvaner grape. Picked fully ripe, vinfied dry and aged in partly new American oak. The 2001 won a gold at the 2003 International Wine Challenge. This is a worthy follow up. The oak is beautifully swallowed up. The nose is perfumed and honeyed with lime and peach fruit- a touch of spice too. Full and rich, just off dry with lovely honeyed spicy fruit, again lime citrus and honeyed peach and other stone fruits. Crisp, clean and fresh with good depth. It's still very young, and will develop very well. The oak is unobtrusive and adds texture and length. At c£22 it's expensive but is of serious quality.
