Massena 'The Eleventh Hour'
Shiraz, 2001
Not Specified
Australia,Barossa Valley 75cl
Massena have had some recent high prise from 'god' Robert Parker Jnr. This is a classic big Barossa Shiraz. Raisin, prune, and black cherry on a rich nose. It's a big wine with loads of ripe, dense, prune like fruit. It's not subtle but is palate staining in it's intense dense fruit. Oak too.Almost malt extract like. Thick, rich and dense. It is full flavoured but perhaps lacks an extra dimension ofcomplexity and balance. However the wine is very young and it will be interesting to see how it develops.Perhaps a touch over-ripe yet the rich fruit is undeniably beguiling. Impressive in its own way.
