Chapel Down Epoch Reserve
Dondo !?, 1999
Not Specified
UK 75cl
12 months in oak probably hasn't helped this wine other than maybe add to a truly impressive colour for an English red wine . The origin of the oak is not mentioned but it could be an old whisky cask from the odd nose that is showing on this wine , somewhere inbetween burnt germolene and old seaweed . The palate has no fruit at all just the oak and to this end there is no mouthfill , no enjoyment and like all english reds i have tried , simply no point .
Maybe UK vineyards should stick to trying to make fizz ? climatically we are not that off par with champagne . Maybe i am just being to sensible .
