Kurt Angerer
Riesling 'Ametzberg', 2011
Austria
Kamptal 75cl
I am loving Kurt's 2011 wines, especially the Riesling's.
2011 was a very late harvest, Ametzberg is a vineyard where the soil is all granite and it typicaly gives the wine a tight minerally character.
This may be the best Ametzberg to date. Lime, hints of passion fruit and ripe red apple on a zesty nose.
Incredibly fresh and bright, just off dry, with loads of extract, it's got bags of fruit, unusually very expressive in it's youth, ripe pear, lime, apricot and hints of passion fruit. Really tangy and vibrant with lovely fresh acidity, limey and taut it's delicious now but sure to improve and gain complexity over the next 5-7 years.
