Gaia 'Wild Ferment'
Assyrtiko, 2011
Greece
Santorini 75cl
This Decanter Trophy winning Assyrtiko is made from ungrafted 80 year old vines, and it's absolutely delicious!
Minerally nose with lemon and white peach. Really tangy and fresh on the zesty palate, lemon zest, stone fruits, hints of spice and a really minerally finish with a touch of saline. Beautiful fruit gives this wine real depth and presence, it's crisp and clean with lovely lemony acidity, superb wine.
Great aperitif but would also be sensational with fresh grilled fish and lemon wedges, white meats and could cope with some spice too. It's only June but already a candidadte for one of my wines of the year. Am loving lots of 2011 Greek whites.
