Weingut Alex Pauly 'Purist'
The new vinatge after the fabulous 2010 from the new star of the Mosel Alex Pauly.
The ‘Purist’ Riesling Kabinett Trocken is, as its name suggests, pristine and steely. “This is not a cuddly toy of a wine,” says Axel. It is dry but not skinny, with a balance that we had previously thought unlikely in dry wines from the Mosel.
11% alcohol, lime with a touch of apricot and ripe red apple on the nose. It's quite dry, steely but with decentf fruit. Limey with a touch of peach and green apple, really crisp, quite bracing acidity and a dry minerally finish. Really clean and pure, it's dry and more austere than the 2010. Great aperitif style, and would also be good with freshly grilled mackerel and similar fish. Will be interesting to see if this fleshes out as it's not as immediately appealing as the 2010.
