Peter Lehmann 'Art Series'
Shiraz-Grenache, 2010
Australia Red
Barossa 75cl
The Peter Lehmann wines have had a major packaging update, the blends being labeled as Art Series and the single varietal wines at a slightly higher price point now labelled as Portrait series. My colleague Jamie has posted his views and i largely concur, the packaging is pretty garish and the back label is a load of nonsense. There is no doubting Peter Lehmann's influence on the Barossa and it's huge and he is one of the good guys and helped the Barossa keep it's identity, fair to say a legend.
Back to the wine! From the very good 2010 vintage this has been made to be an easy drinking style. Some spicy black fruits coupled with white pepper and raspberry from the Grenache. Bright and juicy on the palate with juicy black and red fruits, thankfully no confection, with spice too. It tastes pretty much unoaked and is a good wine for everyday drinking, in fact would make a good pizza wine. Perfectly tasty, drink now and over the next 2 years.
