Giaconda
Pinot Noir, 2005
Australia Red
Beechworth 75cl
One from the 'cellar'
I'm a self confessed fan of the Giaconda wines (particularly the Chardonnay) and it was with glee that I got this out tonight to have with a lamb dish.
Really quite dark in the glass for Pinot and shows off lovely aromas of prune, fig, cigar, leather and reduced red fruits. Whilst an awesome array of smells I was concerned that this would be ovelry stewed.... silly me it was great. It's a muscular pinot but the muscle is from positive flavours rather than grip/tannin with more soft baked fruit flavours. Being hyper critical it's a shame there is not more red fruit on display but this was so complex and enjoyable with the food I don't care
