Roar Wines
Pinot Noir, 2008
USA California Red
Santa Lucia Highlands 75cl
I have read about Roar for some time, so joined the mailing list and bought some 2008's. Was slightly nervous about the high alcohols that i had read about. This is essentially their basic Pinot, weighing in at 14.7% alcohol. I served it with a new season leg of spring lamb, and my guests loved it !. No hint of high alcohol, it's got a fairly pale colour, bright vibrant nose with strawberry, raspberry, plum and oak real lovely Pinot perfume. It's got lovely sweetness, ripe tannins and beautifully judged toasty oak, a hint of stalk on the finish (not evident with food). It's authentic varietal Pinot and although very young is hugely appealing now. I look forward to trying the others.
