Pyramid Valley Vineyards 'Growers Collection' Eaton Family Vineyards
Pinot Noir, 2007
New Zealand Red
Marlborough 75cl
Pyramid Valley is a fantastic, fairly new label. Owners are Mike and Claudia Weersing who have planted a fabulous new vineyard in North Canterbury, which is biodynamically farmed. Only young with very small quantities being released, they also have the 'Growers Collection' from vineyards farmed in a similar way, and of great quality from around New Zealand. The Eaton Family Vineyard is on a steep slope in the Omaka Valley, close spacing in the vineyard, low yields all contribute to a high quality wine. Dense nose with red and black berry fruits, savoury and almost meaty with spice and toasty oak. It's rich and full for a Pinot on the palate too, black cherry and plum with raspberry, creamy integrated oak and ripe tannins. Long and complex abd showing it needs another 2-3 years to really maximise it's potential. Quite Burgundian albeit with new world weight. Another high quality wine from Pyramid Valley.
