Magpie Estate 'The Black Sock'
Mourvedre, 2007
Australia Red
Barossa Valley 75cl
I blended this back in January but have not seen it since then. 95% Mourvedre mostly from two growers with 5% Eden Valley Shiraz blended in for complexity. As ever we use many oaks, this is mostly aged in 1-4 year old oak, both French and American. Lovely perfumed nose with high toned black cherry, raspberry, spice and creamy oak, hints of caramel and raisin. A difficult vintage in almost every way, which meant we were very ruthless in the barrels we selected. It's juicy and vibrabt on the palate, again black cherry and raspberry fruit, creamy oak, licquorice and spice, with just a hint of raisin. Good acidity keeps it fresh and balanced. Not going to be a long term wine, drink now to 2014.
