Mount Mary 'Triolet'

, 2006

Australia White

Yarra Valley 75cl

The Triolet is inspired by the white wines of Graves in Bordeaux. Typically 75% Sauvignon Blanc, 20% Semillon, 5% Muscadelle, fermented and aged in older oak for 10 months. Dr John Middleton founded the winery in Lilydale and his name is honoured on this release, sadly he has passed away but his wines were and still are Australian classics. Minerally, almost smokey nose, chalky too, smells older than it is. It's dry and fresh though not in a lively way, really minerally again with citrus fruit, tangy and gently herbaceous, slightly leesy and oxidative on the finish, i am not sure at what stage the wine is at, having lost primary fruit, but not really mature. Have tasted the odd old bottles which have been singing, this probably just needs time though my feeling is it's not a great Triolet.
