, 2008
South Africa White
Swartland 75cl
A debut release, and a really interesting one too. Made with 86% Chenin Blanc, 7% Clairette Blanche and 7% Viognier. From the shale and granite terroirs of Swartland. From sustainably farmed vineyards, fermented only with indigenous yeasts. No additions other than minimum sulphur. Fermented and matured in barriques, unfiltered and unfined. 13.5% Has a lovely honeyed nose. Spicy and nutty with ripe stone fruits. It's rich and textured on the palate. Honeyed and spicy with lovely stone fruits, and a creamy nutty roundness. Great length and complexity, a hint of phenoloic on the finish is not a problem and will help the wine age. To me it's not about any individual flavour, but the sum and the fabulous texture and length. Really interesiting, and real quality.
