Magpie Estate 'The Call Bag'
Mourvedre-Grenache, 2007
Australia Red
Barossa Valley 75cl
Always good to look at the fruits of my labour. This is my first taste of the finished bottled wine after i blended this in January. Around 55% Mourvedre 45% Grenache. Has some reall good material as we down graded all our top parcels in 2007. It was a difficult and small vintage, however by making no Malcolm, Gomersal or Election our regular wines are looking really good. There is some high quality French oak on this wine which also helps. Warm berry fruits on the nose, quite high toned, with spice and oak. It's juicy and immediately appealing, plum, cherry, redcurrant and lots of cinnamon and nutmeg spice with pepper and creamy new oak. Very much in the zone of recent releases but still shows the character of the vintage. Bright with good acidity keeping it fresh and lively. Not for long aging drink now -2012.
