The Colonial Estate 'John Speke' Single Vineyard
Grenache-Shiraz-Mourvedre, 2006
Australia Red
Barossa Valley 75cl
From a single vineyard in the Northern Barossa from vines aged 60-100 years. 15.5% alcohol. Quite perfumed on the nose with lovel berry fruits, spice, pepper and oak. It's a big rich full flavoured dense red. Red and black berry fruits, spice and creamy mocha oak. Good acidity keeps it juicy and fresh. It's young but already displays lovely ripe fruits, the tannins are soft and it's long and really quite impressive. The fruit is the mainstay and the oak provides complexity and texture, the alcohol is not an issue as this is a balanced big red. Will age well over the next 5-7 years. Impressive.
