0:Tu Otuwhero Estates
Sauvignon Blanc, 2008
New Zealand White
Marlborough, Awatere Valley 75cl
This Sauvignon Blanc comes highly recommended by my old chum Curtis Marsh a wine writer based in Singapore. It's from the Awatere Valley in Marlborough and in particular from a coastal sub region known as Otuwhero on the East Coast. Cool climate and the grapes ripen about two weeks later than say the heart of Marlborough around Blenheim. Perfumed herbaceous nose with nettle, asparagus, blackcurrant and green citrus with just a touch of tropical fruit. It's dry and packed full of nettlety herbaceous fruit with crisp citrus and a touch of white peach. Good weight too, it's clean and fesh, not too dry and really very appealing.
