Charles Melton 'Nine Popes'
, 2005
Australia Red
Barossa Valley 75cl
From the ecellent cool 2005 vintage. Always one of my favourite Barossa wines, this looks very smart. 50% Grenache 45% Shiraz and 5 % Mourvedre. Bright perfumed nose with red cherry, plum and a slight herbal edge though not all unripe. Spice and some nice toasty oak. It's bright and dense on the palate with lovely sweet black and red cherry with lots of spice and quality oak. Tannins are ripe though the wine is well structured and is really quite young at present. It's got good texture and great length with lovely acidity. Sure to age well and may well turn out to be one of the best 'Popes' in years. Delicious.
