Larry Cherubino 'The Yard' Powderbank Vineyard
Shiraz, 2005
Australia Red
Frankland River, Western Australia 75cl
This is the debut from the talented Larry Cherubino, previously head winemaker at Houghton and maker of the great Jack Mann and Gladstone wines. This is a very elegant release. Plum, cherry and some creamy oak on the nose. It's medium bodied and really quite elegant. only 13.5% alcohol. Full of sweet meaty cassis and plum, bright black cherry too. There is classy french oak, good acidity, some cedar and some fairly chalky tannins. Just beginning to settle down this shows great potential . Full of flavour and with enough sweet fruit and suave oak to really want to lay this down. After the tannins it's actually quite silky and long with creamy fruit. I think this will be very good, give it 3-7 years, it amy well age for 10 years. Impressive, understated debut.
