Te Mata Hawke's Bay 'Cape Crest'
Sauvignon Blanc, 2005
New Zealand White
Hawkes Bay 75cl
This is a delicious Sauvignon and deliciously different. It's barrel fermented and it really works. I love all the tangy crisp fresh styles, but there is more to Sauvignon Blanc and this is a lovely alternative style. Honeyed citrus fruit, some mango and peach and a touch of nutty oak on the nose. It's full and rich on the palate the herbaceous, citrus fruit has an extra dimension. A touch of stone fruit and mango and some creamy toasty oak. It's full and round and has really vibrancy to it. Still crisp, fresh and varietal but with added depth and length. Would be great with fish and white meats with a rich creamy sauce. Very distinctive, and very good.
