Cruz De Piedra
Macabeo, 2005
Spain White
Calatayud 75cl
An extremely impressive inexpensive white. One of the most expressive Macabeo (often spelt Maccabeo) wines i have tried. This comes from Bodega Virgen de la Sierra. Produced from old bush vines. Macabeo normally produces quite bland wines. It has a rich perfumed nose with banana, apricot and lime, quite nutty too. Really fresh and vibrant on the palate. Crisp and tangy with lovely peach, apricot and citrus flavours. Dry yet with good weight. It's a style to enjoy whilst young and fresh. Lovely intenisty, long with just lovely pure fruit on the palate. Needs to be served pretty cool to intensify the fruit. Has enough body to make it a pretty decent food wine too.
