Kurt Angerer
Chardonnay, 2005
Austria
Kamptal 75cl
A Noel Young Wines exclusive!! I was able to select my own barrel of Chardonnay (only 1 of 4 produced!), no difference in winemaking but wines do age differently in each oak, albeit slightly, however this was my favourite when visiting Kurt in June. From 25 year old vines, harvested on November 6th. Aged 9 months in 100% new French Allier oak. This wine has been looking good out of barrel all year and i have been looking forward to trying the finished article. Sadly 1 barrel = only 300 bottles so we have 25 dozen only. Has a lovely honeyed peachy nose, hints of butterscotch and vanilla. It's rich, 14% alcohol but has lovely texture and richness. Powerful honeyed citrus and stone fruit with creamy vanillan oak and lovely acidity that keeps it really fine. Has a really long finish, crisp at first leading to a textured richness, really nutty. It really opens up in the glass looking fresher all the time the acidity is crisper and fresher and gives the wine a lighter fresher feel though still impressively long. Quite Burgundian, almost Meursault-like! Drink now -2009
