We have become big fans of the Botalcura winery, whose wines have a European structure to go with some new world fruit. This is partially (30%) aged in oak for 6 months. Deep in colour. Blackberry, spice and a touch of oak on the nose. Medium to full bodied with a real savoury meaty charcter to go with the red and black berry fruit on the palate. It's a solid chunky style with a fair degree of tannin. It lacks a degree of opulence, and whilst i am pretty sure this will age well, it is not really what people look for in a Chilean red, where more instant gratification is more the order of the day.
