WELCOME To our 2009 Winter Newsletter and Wine List

Well what a year 2009 has been, one to forget in so many ways... Let’s hope we have reached the bottom and are on our way back up again albeit at snail pace... Yet again it’s been a trying year in the wine business, the further devaluation of the pound making forecasting, and buying very difficult, margins are under intense pressure, as yet again alcohol, and in particular wine is used by the big boys as ways of luring you in. It’s not good news when one of the biggest players in the business- First Quench (Threshers,Haddows etc), goes into administration, sure they may have got some things wrong but it hammers home the fragility of our trade...

Looking at last year’s introduction to our Christmas offers, I could very much carbon copy what I said last year, so without going down that route, a simple message. PLEASE support your local and not so local independent businesses; it’s hugely important for choice. We have, in Cambridge, now got 15 Tesco’s... and surely that is not healthy (nothing personal against Tesco’s...). Diversity is important, and freedom of choice.

Onto more positive things... We were delighted to once again be awarded the East of England Merchant of The Year, and Australian Specialist Merchant of The Year at the 2009 International Wine Challenge. 2009 looks to be a very encouraging vintage in most parts of the world, and we have a newsletter and wine list stuffed with fabulous wines!!

As usual we have a much expanded range of mixed cases; with I believe some fantastic wines. Looking extensively at what else is being offered this winter/Christmas elsewhere, and I truly believe our cases are as good as anything else on the market place in many cases far better, and i say that as objectively as possible!! Please do give them a try; please do recommend us to your friends and colleagues. Remember our corporate and gift service and international mail order. Hopefully I will see several of you at our major Christmas wine fair on the 29th November at the delightful Anstey hall, a mere stone’s throw away from the shop, it should be a terrific event.

As ever I hope to see and hear from you over the coming weeks, we look forward to being of service. Please join our email list to hear about all our latest offers and promotions, some of which have arrived too late to include in this newsletter.

Thank you so much for your continued support, it means a lot to us all. Have a restful, enjoyable and rewarding festive period. Drink well and heartily! Let’s raise a glass to 2010...

With Warmest Regards and Cheers!
Noel
