2015 Tuscany and Guests

2015 is widely regarded as a great vintage in Tuscany. Bruce Sanderson, Senior Editor at The Wine Spectator says, "The 2015 vintage in Chianti Classico is the best since 1997. The wines show more black fruit flavours than the typical red fruit flavours at this early stage, and are very structured, with both vibrant acidity and dense, sometimes muscular tannins."
I concur and think the wines show great aging potential, whilst still being approachable in their youth if decanted and drunk with food. Many of these wines are in high demand and very limited. More wines will be added to thjs offer as we get allocations. I have also included several other wines from Tuscany that get great reviews and some fabulous values too.
Any wines quoted under bond can of course be purchased duty paid. (Please add £12.99 duty/case of 6 and 20% Vat.)

Felsina Berardenga 'Fontalloro' 2015

Italy

The 2015 vintage was excellent thanks to the regular weather conditions and the flawless quality of the grapes.

After destemming and pressing, fermentation took place at 28-30°C with daily punching down of the cap, followed by a 16-20 day maceration. The wine was then racked into barriques (a mixture of first and second use) in March/April for 18-22 months. The wine was blended in stainless steel tanks and further aged in bottle for 8-12 months before release.

Fontalloro is a deep ruby wine with savoury notes and perfumes of spice and tobacco. The palate is powerful and concentrated with ripe tannins and a great structure supporting spiced autumnal fruit. It shows tremendous length with notes of blackberries and tobacco on the finish.

Felsina Berardenga 'Vigneto Rancia' Chianti Classico Riserva 2015

Italy

"The fine cherry, plum, leather and spice flavours pick up accents of chocolate, earth and mineral as this red gathers steam. Builds to a firmly structured finish, where sweet fruit and dusty tannins linger. Drink now through 2028" 94 pts Bruce Sanderson Wine Spectator

Fontodi Chianti Classico Gran Selezione 'Vigna del Sorbo' 2015

Italy

This is sadly extremely limited. One of my favourite Chianti's of recent years, being a big rich style, the 2013 was amazing, this may rival it.
"This is concentrated and monolithic, with blackberry and black cherry flavours augmented by tar, tobacco and iron notes. Offers excellent potential, but needs time to absorb the tannins. Powerful, showing fine length. Best from 2023 through 2040. 1,800 cases made" 95 pts Bruce Sanderson Wine Spectator

Fontodi Chianti Classico 2015

Italy

On top form, and i think very enjoyable now, even though the best is yet to come.
"Rich, packed with cherry, leather, dark chocolate and wild herb aromas and flavours. Dense and vibrant, with a long, mouth-watering finish that picks up a graphite edge. Best from 2020 through 2032

Fontodi Flaccianello della Pieve 2015

Italy

Very limited stocks
"Rich and opulent, with a sheen to the black currant and blackberry fruit flavours. Additional notes of thyme, leather, mineral and tar add depth, while the burly tannins still ride roughshod on the finish. Nonetheless, all the components are there and this shows fine length. A more muscular style for this wine, reflecting the vintage. Sangiovese. Best from 2021 through 2035" 96 pts Bruce Sanderson Wine Spectator

Isole e Olena Cepparello 2015

Italy

Harvest was carried out during September and the first week of October and was facilitated by numerous sunny days and only a little rain. 2015 was a memorable vintage and the wines show balance, great structure and intense aromas.
It was 100% barrel-aged, a third in new French and American oak (5% of the total), a third in one year old oak and the remaining third was put into two year old oak. The wine remained in barrel for 20 months and then matured in bottle before release.

Bright ruby red in colour, Cepparello has aromas of red fruits and cherries on the nose along with a touch of spice from the well-judged use of oak. The palate opens to ripe fruit and the well-balanced structure of a great Cepparello, as well as elegant, soft tannins and a persistent finish.

San Felice Chianti Classico 2016

Italy

"Expressive and smooth, this red hits all the right notes, with pure black cherry, black currant and violet flavours. Touches of earth, iron and tobacco add complexity. Best from 2020 through 2036." 94 points Wine Spectator August 2018

Argiano 'Solengo' IGT Toscano 2015

Italy

We have been extremely fortunate in securing a good allocation of what is perhaps the best vintage of Solengo that Argiano have ever produced, the sensational 2015. James Suckling said of it, awarding 97 points, as one of his top 100 wines of 2017:

“Fantastic aromas of flowers such as violets and roses with dark purple fruits and hints of stones, too. Full body with ultra-fine tannins and a long and linear finish. This is a return to the great Solengos of the mid-1990s. The best since 1997. Cabernet Sauvignon 50%, Petit Verdot 30%, Merlot 15% and Sangiovese 5%. Drinkable now but better in 2020.”
