Produced from 15-30 year old Garnacha vines from selected vineyards at 500-600m altitude and 10 year old Syrah vines. The poor stony, sandy soils, low night-time temperatures and moderate yields give grapes with excellent colour, extract and acidity. Fermented at 22-25C with 15 days maceration followed by 3 months maturation in French oak barriques (new or 2nd year). This is a real step up from the Borsao Seleccion, in terms of richness and body. Packed full of brambly fruit with lots of smoky bacon and creamy oak. Plain chocolate too on the long smooth finish. Would make a really good barbecue wine for the stronger flavoured foods. A lot of wine for your money !

The grapes are sourced from Borsao's oldest vines, up to 60 years old, planted on uneven clay and limestone soils in the Alto Moncayo - at an altitude of 600-700 metres. Low yields. Maturation for several months in new French oak barriques.
Ripe berry with mocha/chocolate, smoky bacon notes and some spice on the nose.
Always a crowd pleaser this is bang on ! Ripe sweet berry fruit allied to toasty creamy oak. smoked meat characters, spice, white pepper with chocolate on the long finish. If you like rich, opulent wines then this ticks all the boxes and must be close to the perfect winter red. Has a lovely purity of berry and cherry fruit that makes this so attractive. DY

A powerful high altitude Syrah from Spain - made by Aussie winemaker Chris Ringland.
"There is a new pure Syrah developed in conjunction with Australian winemaker Chris Ringland, first bottled in 2013, but I already tasted the 2014 Zarihs. It is produced with an Australian clone of the grape planted in Borja in 2002. Forty percent of the volume aged in new American oak barrels. It has a ripe and heady nose, very Ringland, deeply balsamic with meaty and roasted flavours, smoky and showy, with that patina of sweet spices lent by the American wood. This is full-bodied and juicy, a voluptuous Syrah with deep balsamic and roasted flavours. Borja with an Australian accent. Very good in its style and very good for the price asked. It should develop nicely in bottle for a few years." 91 pts Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
