Grosset 2017 New Releases

Grosset
2017 Release

Grosset received major acclaim at the James Halliday Wine Companion Awards 2018 in Melbourne recently, named Best Value Winery of the Year. A great honour to be one of only six major award winners at this prestigious ceremony, Jeffrey (Grosset) said “The word ‘value’ encapsulates all that matters at Grosset. Our aim is to produce beautiful wines and for these to be accessible.”

Not only enjoying recognition in Australia, Grosset once again made the Top 100 Wineries of the year (Wine & Spirits Magazine, USA), one of only five Australian wineries in the line-up.

We are pleased to offer our best Grosset customers a chance for an initial opportunity to secure their stock from our allocation.
Vintage 2017
‘2017 is our third consecutive outstanding vintage and makes 2017, 2016 and 2015 the best run of seasons we have ever experienced. These latest release wines are beautiful expressions of variety, season and site.
The 2017 vintage was a full month later than the previous two. It was almost European in character with much higher rainfall during the growing season. Whether the ability of each of our sites to produce such outstanding and consistent quality wine is due to our focus on the geology when choosing the land to plant, the relatively rare mix of vine clones planted, or the organic principles applied, we may never know. We can say that the combination of these has had a profound impact. This is especially true for our three rieslings; each being from a unique vineyard site.
The resilience of our vines and their ability to consistently produce superior quality wine in a world where climatic conditions are changing is nothing short of a marvel.’ Jeffrey Grosset

Grosset 'Polish Hill' Riesling 2017

Australia

John Jens, Eastern Reporter, 11 September 2017
“The just-released 2017 vintage is an extraordinary wine and, on my card, is amongst the great eight to 10 Australian Rieslings ever made. Full-flavoured with lime and lemon citrus flavours, dense, complex and with classical quality and length… The most delicious upmarket Riesling available today…” 18.9 points

Huon Hooke, huonhooke.com, 24 August 2017
“Lovely fresh aromas of lemon pith, candlewax and creamy notes. The palate is crisp and lively with intense lime and lemon fruit flavour… A superb young Riesling. The intensity and crystalline clarity in both aroma and flavour is outstanding. It is shaping as one of the greatest Polish Hill Rieslings ever” 97 points

Huon Hooke, huonhooke.com, Wine of the Week, September 2017
“This is a superb young Riesling, as good as I can recall from Grosset... Just beautiful.” 97 points

Grosset 'Springvale' Riesling 2017

Australia

The ‘Springvale’ also surprises, being more intensely primal than it is in most vintages. It entices with lime and lemon blossom aromas. There’s layer after layer of mouth-puckering lime juice flavours, tight structure, spine-tingling acidity and shaley minerally notes that linger. It’s an outstanding ‘Springvale’, fine, intense, pure, minerally and dry.
‘The Springvale vineyard was planted seventeen years ago. It is unique on two fronts: First, its odd shape accurately reflects the red loam-over-limestone profile below. Under this limestone is slate, its existence discovered by us only after the vine roots had reached that far. Second, the mix of riesling clones is rare. The result is a deliciously limey riesling with backbone.’ JG

Grosset 'Alea' Riesling 2017

Australia

This is an amazing riesling, perhaps the best yet under this label. It has intense lemon grass and lime juice characters which follow through on to the palate. The flavours are intensely concentrated, powerful and show incredible depth. The vibrant natural acidity balances the sweetness and lingers long and dry on the finish.
‘Inspired by the best dry Rieslings of Europe, Alea is produced in the international style, made to the Grosset standard. From the Rockwood vineyard in Watervale where the likeness to European fruit was first noticed in 2007, this wine offers great versatility; people, food, situations. The flavour and balance of the 2017 vintage are exquisite and the best so far.’ JG
